Green Apple Health Care is a naturopathic health care clinic in Edmonton founded in 2008 by Dr. Michael Nowazek, a naturopathic doctor who has been practicing since 1997.

Green Apple Health Care is a primary care clinic providing health care through basic and advanced naturopathic therapies. At Green Apple Health Care, customized care is given to each individual patient.

We don’t always have positions open at our clinic but we welcome resumes from qualified applicants for entry level Health Care Aide, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Medical Office Administrative Assistant. We look for the right person, someone who is a quick learner and capable of performing the needed tasks quickly and efficiently. Training on our clinic systems is provided. No experience is required.

JOB TITLE: Naturopathic Health Care Aide DEPARTMENT: IV Support REPORTS TO: Clinic Owner DATE REVIEWED: January 8, 2021
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Naturopathic Health Care Aide (HCA) is a valued member of our medical office team. This individual provides basic support services for the clinic doctors and supports patients directly. The HCA assists the main IV room staff with maintaining patient care in our IV department, including cleaning, charting, helping with mixing IVs and monitoring patient care and making sure clinic patient flow is optimized. As the HCA gains experience, there will be opportunity to diversify, learn more about naturopathic medicine, and grow with the clinic.
EXPERIENCE & ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum high school education or equivalent
  • Health Care Aide training with completed certification
  • Experience working as a Health Care Aide is an asset, but not required
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist doctors with various treatments and procedures as requested
  • Assist with the mixing of IV bags
  • Monitor IV patients
  • Take patient vitals
  • Finish IV treatments and remove IV lines
  • Cleaning and sanitizing after patient care
  • Accurately and comprehensively update EMR charting
  • Maintain inventory and supplies
  • Contributes to a safe and calming environment for clients
  • Complies with Green Apple’s policies and procedures
  • This is a growth position, more learning, duties and responsibilities will be added as you want and learn and grow with our team. We will also not push the HCA beyond their comfort and skill levels, however there is ample opportunity for growth for the right candidate.
  • The HCA is NOT expected to perform restricted activities beyond scope of practice, such as starting an IV line by inserting a needle or any needle technique. The HCA is expected to be support staff for the IV department and clinic in general and helps assist other IV staff. 
COMPETENCIES & SKILLS
  • Demonstrates ability to understand, speak, read and write effectively in English
  • Has foundational HCA knowledge and skills including human body systems, documentation, communication, hygiene, cleaning, sanitizing, vitals, supervised assistance etc.
  • Entry level HCA certification, training and skills are adequate. All training in the necessary tasks we need the HCA to perform at Green Apple will be provided and are not beyond entry level HCA training.
  • Cares for and works cooperatively with others as an effective team member.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Able to learn quickly and perform tasks effectively
  • Good organizational and time-management skills
  • Moderate or better computer knowledge and skills are required. You will be trained on our EMR and computer systems and be using computers a lot. A rudimentary or basic skill level of computers will not be adequate. 
  • The HCA is NOT expected to be trained or competent in IV line insertion or needling technique. IV line insertion and needling technique is reserved for other staff only.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Green Apple Health Care Ltd. is a naturopathic medical clinic treating a variety of health conditions with completely natural therapies. We have a busy IV department where we require support nursing staff to help us with direct IV patient care. You would be working directly with patients, administering IV and other injections and monitoring patients during their treatments. We are looking for the right person to join our team.

HOURS OF WORK

Part time to full time available. (As this is a growth position, we are offering part time hours initially, and eventually will expand to a full time position.)

Starting hours are Tuesday to Thursday 8:00am to 3:30pm, with 1 hour off for lunch from 11:30 to 12:30.

LOCATION

Convenient southside location, close to public transit, with free on site parking.
We are located at 9148 – 23 Avenue, Suite 221. This is in Millwoods, at 91st street and 23rd avenue, across from South Edmonton Common.

SALARY

Starting wage $26 to $28, depending on skills, performance and reviews.

JOB TITLE: Medical Office Administrative Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Reception
REPORTS TO: Clinic Owner

SUMMARY OF POSITION

We are looking for an individual who is efficient and comfortable being a member of a team. The ability to multi-task, while maintaining doctor’s schedules and managing administrative support for our doctors is essential in this position. The ideal candidate for this job is personable and likes interacting with and helping patients. We need someone who works well with others, is a team player and communicates in a professional and supportive manner.

The Medical Office Administrative Assistant is an important member of the medical office team. They help manage the office environment by performing a number of duties. This can include everything from booking and confirming appointments, tracking patient information, processing insurance forms, handling office correspondence, managing computer records and so much more. MOAs also perform other essential duties, such as getting a patient’s medical history and preparing patients for laboratory tests.
The working hours are Monday to Thursday 9am to noon and 1pm to 4:30pm. Friday 8:30 to noon. There are days where the start or end times are 1 hour after these posted hours. This is a total of 38 hours a week.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
  • Welcoming and greeting patients both in person and on the telephone
  • Answering the phone, taking messages, check voice mail and answer questions.
  • Do daily Phone Reminders
  • Book appointments
  • Taking payments and manage the clinic’s cash flow
  • Retrieve and sell inventory to clients
  • Scan and index documents including: intake forms, requisitions, lab results, etc.
  • Arrange courier shipments for lab tests
  • Check and arrange faxes
  • Counting cash float and completing the end of day reconciliation each day.
  • Take out garbage if it fills up
  • Tidy clinic weekly and as needed (dusting, sweeping, etc.). A cleaning service does the main cleaning weekly, however some tidying might be needed through the week.
  • Take outgoing mail to mailbox.
  • Helping our doctors with procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Minimum high school education or equivalent.
  • Ideally some training or experience in reception skills, preferably medical office receptionist training, but not required.
  • Ideally training in Health care aide or certification but not required.
  • Proficiency with MS Windows and MS Office with experience in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Typing 40 wpm.
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision.
  • Training on our computer systems is provided, with complete office manuals providing detailed information on how to do all tasks required.
