A recent study by the British Medical Journal has show that paracetamol (acetaminophen) is not effective in the management of spinal pain (lower back pain) and osteoarthritis of the hip or knee.
Acetaminophen, sold as Tylenol over the counter and prescribed as paracetamol is a common drug that is used as a first line of treatment in various types of body pain.
This new study published March 31st 2015 shows that this type of treatment is not only ineffective, but can actually harm the liver if used over long periods of time.
Acupuncture for back pain
Luckily for my patients we have a safe and effective alternative = acupuncture.
Acupuncture has been recognized by the World Health Organization for a long time as an effective treatment for lower back pain, osteoarthritis and many other inflammatory and pain based problems. Studies have shown that acupuncture can lower the blood value of pro-inflammitory interleukins like IL-6 while at the same time increasing the anti-inflammitory interleukins such as IL-10.
